A summer Deschutes River float from your Bend base camp

FLOAT THE DESCHUTES, THEN UNWIND AT CAMP

A summer float on the Deschutes River is a Bend classic. Roadhouse Ranch & Camp makes a comfortable base for the day: drive into town for the river, then return to a heated yurt or a dry campsite and a hot shower. For the popular in-town route, Bend Park & Recreation District describes floating from Riverbend Park toward Drake Park. Its official floating guide explains where to put in and take out, current rules, the Colorado Avenue passage and seasonal shuttle options. Check bendparksandrec.org/float/ before you set out, because shuttle dates, river conditions and access can change. Bring suitable floating equipment, secure footwear, sun protection and a way to keep belongings dry. Follow all posted safety instructions; children 12 and under need a life jacket under Oregon rules. The Colorado Avenue passage includes a mellow channel and a whitewater channel, so choose the route that matches your comfort and ability. The river is in Bend, not at the ranch; plan your transport back to your starting point. After the float, head back to Roadhouse for shared hot showers, flush toilets and a calm high desert evening. Compare current yurt and campsite availability below for your summer dates.
